I found some at Macy's on sale for $5.99 a bowl, but
I am not sure of the size. You might check them out. They are microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe. They look lightweight, but it doesn't mention the dimensions or weight. Also if you look at homerlaughlin.com, you will find the ones that I have. Mine are black, but they come in all sorts of colors. I thought they were pasta bowls, but they are called white rimmed soup bowls. They are pretty substantial, but that is what I like about them. They are hard for clumsy hands to break. They run about $9.00 a bowl. I love mine, and use them all the time.
These are 12" diameter (actually about 11.8") and are substantial porcelain but not heavy like stoneware. The cool thing about this line is that they are broiler-proof, so you can run them under the broiler for melting cheese. I don't have these but I do have a broiler-proof line of china and they're wonderful for making pasta gratiné. They're $12.95 each and you get free shipping if you order 89$ worth (that comes out to 7 or more). These are made by a manufacturer who supplies tableware to the restaurant industry in France.
