Anyone know where to buy filberts in the shell? Not sure where to start looking...

I'll bite. Why do you need them in the shell?

You might call Bristol Farms or Gelsens. Does Farmers Market on Fairfax have a nut shop?

I'm old enough to remember the pre-TJ's days when all nuts were mostly bought in the shell. Now, I don't even own a nutcracker.

A friend wants to give a big bag (with nut cracker) to hubby for Christmas.

He loves them, but eats the shelled ones wayyyy too fast. I was just at the Farmers Market today and they didn't have filberts...lots of interesting things though, including my favorite Fuyu persimmons 2 for $1

I can see that--they're way to easy to scarf down once they're shelled. At least the nutcracker

offers some low-level exercise.

I love to use ours this time of year! We have a teak one w/ matching cracker. When we

get together w/ our neighbors, it is fun to put out as we are drinking our wine. Inevitably the shells will fly across the room. I know it sounds so 1970ish, but if you buy good nuts, it really is fun and everyone seems to laugh and enjoy the nuts.
Have to add them to my list. I did not put it out this year.

If anyone is looking to buy a nutcracker, this one took top honors from CI. Review says it

cracks nuts effortlessly and excelled at keeping the nutmeats intact. Also that it doesn't scatter shells all over. Does that take the fun out of it? And, that it cracked a lb of walnuts in 9 minutes. I'm so impressed, I wish I needed one!
