Anyone use a Foodsaver marinator? Is there any advantage other than shorter marinating time?

You don't have to actually use the "marinator" they sell. Just put your meat in a

bag and draw the vaccuum, even partially. Or put it in a shallow Glad type plastic container they sell now. Put that in a bag (FS) and draw the vacuum.
It is good for speeding up the marinating.

Yep that is what I do, I also put meat into a freezer bag, along with marinade, remove as much air

as I can, then freeze it until I need it. I think it soaks into the meat and tenderizes it nicely. I especially like doing this to rib eye steaks.

Did you know that those Food Savers draw air out of many different packaged foods too? We always reseal bags of chips, cookies, Panko, cereal, etc with the Food Saver. I usually do not draw the air out of these with the machine, just use my hands to do it. Some packaged foods do not draw as well as others. And I think it depends on which model of Food Saver you have.

I think a tad off subject but I remove the air from a freezer/ziplock bag using a straw

I do this w/ everything I freeze:)

I basically close the ziplock all the way until only the straw fits; then I start pulling out the air.

My aunt did that WAY back before there was vacuum-sealing. She was the Queen of frozen cookies.

She was also the aunt who refused to share any of her famous recipes because she didn't want to share the credit.

I'm pretty sure her cookies are baked extra-crispy now.
