We're doing Chinese take-out. I love a local restaurant's shrimp fried rice and hot and sour soup.

Also bought myself some SF Italian cookies and a request for anything chocolate and a small bottle of port. Love that combo!

husband's requests

ribs - a favorite with us, low and slow in the oven then baste with Head Country BBQ sauce and char on the grill

mashed potatoes - I simmer yukon gold chunks in half skim milk and half heavy cream to barely cover, mash when soft, season with salt and white pepper

salad - nothing fancy

dutch apple pie - I have never made one before and generally stink at pie crust, I'll use the recipe posted on this site; wish me luck

Did Valentines Day on Friday night. Went to a local Italian restaurant

had an amazing Caesar salad made table side, an array of great starters,a tuna salad mix they are famous for, spread on warm baguette sour dough, thin cheese and salami, peppers, kalamata olives. A course of two types of pasta, then I had steak diane. Was too full to each much of it, so brought it home. It was excellent the next day. Hubby brought his fillet mignon home too. Next time it is Caesar salad and a bowl of steamed garlic and lemon clams. I think I could handle that.

We celebrated on Saturday -

We had a rare child-free evening, so had all kinds of foods that cause the children to turn up their noses. smileys/smile.gif

Started with cheese-filled red and white heart shaped ravioli (Costco) with a sauce of olive oil, chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic, parm and a bit of lemon juice

Champagne

Dinner was sauteed scallops, served with Heather's Lemon Risotto, steamed asparagus, and homemade breadsticks and garlic bread.

Creme brulee (The CI version) topped with a beautiful strawberry for dessert.

DS and I are making a Red Velvet Cake and a heart shaped chocolate chip cookie for tomorrow night's dessert.

Take Out! And a big box of chocolates a client of mine so generously

sent me. Lucky me - he owns a chocolate shop!

Sushi

we had all good intentions of cooking a nice dinner at home, but we are both absolutely exhausted.

I made a chocolate mousse last night, and by the time we went to bed, we looked at each other and Phil said "are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

I guessed it right - let's go out, and bag the idea of cooking

A bathroom renovation is not that fun... arriving home from work to find the whole house covered in fine dust from the demolition of a couple of sinks and tiles.... oh, boy.

dining out it will be, with a simple dessert later at home.

Oh, we took a carb holiday and grazed at their decadent

Sunday brunch. What a treat. I have to say my favorite was the Southern Pan-Fried Chicken with the smoked gouda baked mac and cheese. You can take the boy out of the country, but...

Although the prime rib and the bloody mary bar were also exceptional! Pickled Asparagus stirrers!

And then, their housemade desserts: I did a sampler plate of bittersweet chocolate cup filled with caramel mousse, white chocolate praline parfait, carrot cake, red velvet cake, apple crisp, butterscotch bread pudding, and chocolate suicide torte. Oh, and some of those totally decadent raspberry and bittersweet chocolate petit fours? Yeah, had a couple of those as well... LOL

LOL

YUM!! What a treat and a special Valentine's day. I love the idea of a bloody Mary bar. I

think I will do this for my next brunch. Off to search for recipes for pickled asparagus stirrers! : )

Barb, the Bloody Mary Bar was outstanding!

They had glass urns with straight tomato, V-8, and the House Recipe (spicy clam). Then they had an array of all sorts of sauces (tobasco, chili, green pepper, habanero, hot, mild, Worcestershie, etc. etc.). A display of "stir-ins" (assorted peppers, crumbled bacon, spice blends, flavored salts, horseradish, garlic powder, celery salt, Old Bay, etc.) then a large assortment of garniture (a dozen sorts of stuffed black and green olives, assortment of cheese cubes, chilled shrimp, cornichons, citrus wedges, etc.) with decorative pics, then the stirrers (celery, pickled green beans, dill spears, pickled asparagus (green and white, scallions, pickled okra, etc.). Then, they hand you a glass with your vodka in it and you get busy. LOL
