are there any, really good BB Q sauces in the supermarkets? I've been ordering

mine from James Gang BB Q for some time now. great sauces but wouldn't mind having an off the shelf back-up now and then. smileys/smile.gif

Well...the reason there are so many is people have differents ideas of what bbq sauce should be. CI

rated them awhile back and Bull's-Eye Original won their rating. I keep a bottle of it on hand, but generally make my own.

There three guidelines for buying a good one is to avoid the ones that have high fructose corn syrup listed as the first ingredient because they are too sweet. I found that ruled out most of the specialty sauces in my market! Second, avoid sauces that include thickening agents and stabilizers, because they give an unpleasant texture. Last, don't depend on price as an indicator of quality.

They also liked Stubb's and Lea and Perrins but Hunt's Original, Open Pit original and Jack Daniel's Grilling sauce were not recommended. I'm just reporting, I'm no expert.

I think I had used some Stubb's way back. I'm just in love with Jame's Gangs

Honey Habanero Wing & Grilling Sauce. it is a bit sweet but not overly so and it has a wonderful "heat" to it. it's good on shrimp too. I think I'm going to check out the Bull's eye and Stubb's and compare them to sauces I just ordered.

sounds like shrimp and baby back heaven! smileys/smile.gif

I like Stubb's because it's not sweet, plus it has a great flavor. Most barbeque sauces, such as

Bull's Eye are too sweet for me.

Pepper Plant BBQ Sauce -- it's the ONLY one I'll use

You can't get it in the supermarket, but a lot of little specialty sandwich shops will carry it, but it's not really cheaper than ordering it directly from them.

I've used only their original BBQ sauce - got hooked long before they had the other ones smileys/smile.gif

This one really meets CI's criteria, sounds wonderful. However, shipping for 1 bottle is $10, I'll

look for it at Whole Foods, anyone know if they carry it?

I have my case of Jame's Gang's sauces and I think I will pick up the ones you all have

recommended and do a comparison taste test. I probably make ribs once a month and looking forward to trying these, side by side.

thanks everyone smileys/smile.gif
