Are they serious? Produce safety testing program on the chopping block.

If they want the FDA to take it it over, the budget should go with it...like in real life busines.

I bet the USDA would be a lot more reluctant to give it up if they had to transfer the budget dollars as well.

 
The USDA didn't get the budget $$ for it this year,

that is part of the reason for suggesting it be moved to the FDA.

It was interesting to read how the program actually works - it was responsible for identifying cases of contamination, but because of the way it works, most of the produce had long been consumed before it was identified as being contaminated.

I'd be interested in hearing Sally/BR's take on this.
