A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Let us give thanks...

For generous friends...with hearts as big as hubbards and smiles as bright as their blossoms;

For feisty friends as tart as apples;

For continuous friends, who, like scallions and cucumbers, keep reminding us we had them;

For crotchety friends, as sour as rhubarb and as indestructible;

For handsome friends, who are as gorgeous as eggplants and as elegant as a row of corn -- and the others -- as plain as potatoes, and so good for you.

For funny friends, who are as silly as brussels sprouts and as amusing as Jerusalem artichokes, and serious friends as complex as cauliflowers and as intricate as onions;

For friends as unpretentious as cabbages, as subtle as summer squash, as persistent as parsley, as delightful as dill, as endless as zucchini, and who -- like parsnips -- can be counted on to see you through the long winter;

For old friends, nodding like sunflowers in the evening-time, and young friends coming on as fast as radishes;

For loving friends, who wind around as like tendrils, and hold us despite our blights, wilts, and witherings;

And finally, for those friends now gone, like gardens past, that have been harvested - but who fed us in their times that we might have life thereafter;

For all these we give thanks.

Amen.

Pat, You said it so eloquently! I agree...So thankful for the wisdom, friendships, recipes and

support from my FK friends....I wish you all the best!

A perfect time to thank all of you for the warm welcome I received this past year...

and wishing you and all those special in your life a wonderful thanksgiving Holiday

Perfectly said, Pat. This core group of friends is one I'm delighted to have had

for the last 5+ years; even though it's always a bit of a struggle to make friends in a new country, I've always been able to count on you all for wonderful food insights, stories, community, and support. It's a REMARKABLE group of people!

Here's to you! smileys/smile.gif

I so agree. Even more so because most of my menu comes from this forum, but

the recipes are the least part of it.

I was listening to Splendid Table recently, and Paul Roberts was saying that the best thing one could do for the environment was to return to cooking at home two or three times a week. I was astonished, as I know so many people who cook most nights. Then I realized that you are the 'so many people' and I am grateful to be part of a community that thinks cooking every night is normal.

I hope everyone here knows how thankful I am for the recipes, advice and comeraderie

There is nothing like this place. I describe it to friends and family as "I know their kid's names and their spouses' dietary restrictions" and I get blank stares. They don't believe the internet can be so non-impersonable

I will add that this year I am thankful that once I saute a few shrimp for appetizers at my brother's on Thursday, I am off the hook for the rest of the evening! Catering biz is picking up, leaving me a little tired, and I am thankful for that too.

I am especially thankful for you... You continue the "family" - >

So that the odd "cousins" like myself can drop by and visit when we're in need of ideas or recipes that we can depend on... There are always the sad moments when we find that someone has lost a loved one, or sadder yet, when one of the "family" passes on. When I'm looking for something I can depend on, this is always my first stop. Happy Thanksgiving to my extended Foodie Family!

So well said Glennis and thank you to all here for such a great

home to come to. Whether looking for a recipe or an idea or in pain. I will always hold dear the warm thoughts from those here when we lost our beautiful black swan. We still miss you Blackie. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving all!
