I have to bake something for a picnic tonight and just discovered that I'm out of white sugar. I don't have time to go to the store AND bake something so I need a recipe that uses only brown sugar (which I do have).

Can I make chocolate chip cookies with just brown sugar? I've always wanted to try that, actually, so this might be a good opportunity.

Any thoughts?

I think I just made the most boring cake on earth.

I decided I didn't have time to make cookies, so I thought I'd make a brown sugar/spice bundt cake. Found a recipe and made the cake, but forgot to put the spices in. So I made a cinnamon glaze to drizzle over the cake.

I think this process was doomed from the start.

Thanks for all your help, though. I've been looking for a good oatmeal cookie recipe, so I'll be trying these.

Do you have any creamcheese and/or whipping cream? Add the spices to those.

Make a faux "couer a la creme" simply by sweetening cream cheese, beat until smooth, beat heavy cream until stiff and fold together. Add your spices and tell everyone that the cake is a base, but the creme is the star.

Think of them as the Proletariat and Bourgeoisie of the pastry class.

We sure do, they are a real B**** to slice however. Next time I'm

going to use the quick cooking oats and see if it makes it easier to cut but also maintains the integrity of the crisp. Bad idea?

Have you tried an electric knife? That's what we use. Works

like a charm. Also, keep rotating the roll as you slice to keep it from flattening and cracking.

I got rid of my electric knife when we moved but I do rotate the roll.

We like them really thin so they are super crisp.
