Thanks for all the b-day wishes; sorry I didn't get to check in more often. Incredible food in Paris, dinner last night was so memorable (will post details later). I'm in the Air France lounge at CDG and will be home later today. I'll post an update later.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone!

PS: Marg, your shopping tips were AMAZING!!!!!!! You really know your way around Paris!

Welcome home Richard! Once you recover from jet lag, we expect COMPLETE coverage....

details, restaurants, tips, recipes, descriptions, gossip etc.!

Hope you had a great time.

Ohmigosh! I wished I'd have known that!

We could have met up for dindin or some such. I spent most of those two days in museums and sitting and having a nice long decadent Parisian dinner was just the thing.

that would have been much nicer...

we were at Stade de France on Wednesday night, watching Arsenal get pounded by Barcelona - very dissapointing and depressing... and the thuderstorm did not help either - plus to break up the crowds, the nice french police used pepper spray, we were so unhappy...

and to keep it food related we had a strange omelet at a cafe in St. Gratien where our hotel was, an ugly Ibis - there was not a single hotel room in Paris to be had - how long ago had you booked yours?

on thursday we did have a nice lunch in Les Halles and I did make it to a Monoprix, but it was so hot and humid, and we were so tired that we just took the train back after lunch...

you must have seen all the football fans poncing about the city, no?

Oh yes, the Barcelona boys were in rare form.

They took over Paris! What a fun day that was--they were everywhere, we saw the fireworks and heard the music from their pep rally under the Eiffel Tower (so sultry!), it certainly leant a festive air to the city that day, but I was wondering how they would be by game time with the all day frenzied crescendo of drinking and merry-making. And yes, I thought the thunderstorm that evening wouldn't have been very nice. So sorry to hear you got trapped in it at Stade de France! Luckily I was in the Normandie seeing the Da Vinci Code and by the time I came out the storm was nearly over and the air was wonderfully washed and fresh.

We booked months in advance. We stayed at a two-bedroom B&B on the Ile Saint Louis. Gorgeous 16th century place with beamed ceilings and antiques.

And I was at Les Halles one day later, on Friday. So close!

Richard, we HATE the Barcelona boys....

We were the desolate Arsenal fans in red and white...

maybe it was one of our guys that jumped form the Eiffel Tower...

It was one of the worst trips ever -

I'm glad you seem to have had a good enough time for both of us!!
