I have a similar problem here in rural N. Cali...
I'm in the ag zone, and we're pretty basic here. Sacramento is 70 miles away...Napa a bit more...and San Francisco is 150 miles. So...when I know we're going to even be "in the neighborhood" I plan a whirlwind food shopping fest. I save my pennies so I can purchase whatever I may find with a clear conscience, and I always remember...it may be 2-5 years before I pass that way again. I recommend a very large pantry and a Food Saver!
