Attention NYC lunch bunch

Erin, Tim, and I are going to make a trip up to the Bronx to visit the Italian wonderland of Arthur Avenue. We've all been dying to go there for years but it is just such a slog on public transit. So Erin has graciously offered the option of using her Zipcar membership to rent a car for a several hours to whisk us up to Arthur Avenue for the journey.

If there is interest, we could do this instead of Chinese lunch in Midtown. The NJ crowd could meet us there and the Manhattan bunch could chip in on the zipcar pool. We could shop Italy and have lunch at a trattoria on Arthur Ave.

Let me know your thoughts if you'd like to do this instead of Chinese lunch in Midtown.

Marilyn, we'd meet Erin and the car at the 181st St. A Train stop. We could arrange to meet you in Midtown and you could travel with us up to 181st St.

If everyone would rather keep Chinese lunch as is, that is totally fine with us, we'll do it another day.

I'm in! Please think about what I can carry back on the plane. I'm staying at the Lexington

on, ah...Lexington and a few blocks north of Grand Central. But I had planned on checking out and stowing just my bag before our lunch since I'm leaving town that day. So...basically, I can meet you anywhere.

You just need to stay longer! You should check out how to get lottery tickets to broadway shows.

My friend it seeingHarry Potter this afternoon; she saw Hamilton....all through some sort of lottery. W the kids; I do not have as much flexibility w our schedule, so I haven't researched.

I'd LOVE to; I will be a last minute thing; as I would need to rely on Kid carpool, and too early

to "book it!" But if I can swing it, I will be there!

Delta just sent me email. They've bumped up my departure to 5:00 PM

and I'd almost finished booking my shuttle back from GCS. I'll still do lunch where-ever but I may need to leave earlier than I'd hoped. We'll have to START with hugs and move on to food.

If we're going to be in Bronx, should I just go to LaGuardia from there? Rather than

back to Grand Central Station per a round-trip ticket.

We'll be in da Bronx...

It's 10 miles/30 minutes to LGA via taxi/Uber (taxi fare estimate is $24). Might be a good idea to bring suitcase and leave from there. It is 12 miles and an 1.5 hours back to Grand Central and another 10 miles and an hour (plus wait time for shuttle pickup) back out to LGA. Not a good idea. Yes, this is a big damn city.

Here is the cheap MTA route:

If you think that is to much,, we can keep original plan for Chinese in Midtown.

Barb, if Midtown Chinese is a definite and Bronx Arthur Ave is iffy...

I'd rather see you and keep the original plan.

Totally open on this, because if we don't do this on Thursday, we'll be going Saturday anyway.

There is also broadway.tix.com if you want to plan ahead a bit...

currently showing $39 tix for Hello Dolly (Bernadette Peters) and Carousel (Renee Fleming) the first week of May.

We got tix for Boys in the Band, Dear Evan Hansen, and The Band's Visit-- 6 tix for $300. Which is a mid-range single ticket price for Evan at the box.

But of course the BIG event that week is the mighty Bavarian Radio Symphony (one of the top-5 orchestras in the world) at Carnegie and the London Symphony at Avery Fisher/Lincoln Center playing Mahler Symphonies 7,9.10 and Das Lied von der Erde. I have chills in anticipation. I snagged front row tix for Bavarian Radio Symphony in First Tier Box at Carnegie for $65!!!!

It will be another birthday in Gotham to remember. My last NYC birthday celebration was for a week of the complete "Der Ring des Nibelungen" at the MET. It will be hard to top that, but this trip is shaping up rather nicely.

And we haven't even scheduled our NYC Afternoon Tea yet. Trying to decide where to go. Mandarin Oriental is so spectacular with the view over Central Park and Midtown from the 35th floor Aviary Lounge (and those Candied Ginger Scones with the house Cherry Jam and Devonshire Cream!). But the Ritz Carlton on Central Park South is so Downton Abbey with their wood paneled Edwardian Drawing Room and Limoges China...But then, we haven't had tea at the Baccarat Crystal Grand Salon yet...Decisions, decisions...

OK. Arthur Avenue would be epic (and the stories we could tell), but...

logistics are what they are.

So, original plan is on.

Erin, we're going to Arthur Ave on Saturday!

Chinese in Midtown! And this is a fabulous restaurant! It was Sandra/NYC/London's find.

We were there in May for the Ring a couple years back. After we had lunch, we walked down 5th Avenue to Madison Square, blitzed Eataly, and then sat up on the rooftop deck drinking Italian beer in the glorious NYC May sunshine.

Just so this doesn't get lost: Original Plan in Effect!!!

Szechwan Gourmet on 39th St just off Fifth Ave.

Thursday, 3 May. Noon. I will make reservations.

Afterwards we could stroll, or we have a suite at the Hilton on Ave. of the Americas so could host a post lunch cocktail hour. Let's send Mar slogging back to Florida!!! LOL
