Baby Shower Cake with a "giraffe" theme

First time Mommie has decorated "soon to be here" Lily's room in a brown & white color theme and...giraffes.

The hostess for her shower asked if I could "make a cake...any cake, in fact, anything at all, T. loves everything you make" cake.

Then she mentioned giraffes.

Then she mentioned this squeakly teething toy that her 2-year old daughter loves.

Thus was born "The Vulli Sophie Cake."

Apparently, Vulli Sophie was born 50 years ago in France.

Oh, la-la!

Cake is Silver Palate's Carrot Cake (two 8" layers (700 grams each), two 6" layers (350 grams each)), each layer split and spread with lemon curd, then white chocolate cream cheese icing between layers, tiers and over the entire thing. Tinted/piped some of the cream cheese icing brown to hide the cardboard bases.

Spots are simply melted confectionary chocolate that I dropped from a pastry bag onto acetate, then whacked the cookie tray to spread, popped it into the frig, peeled off and flipped over.

Writing was more of the confectionary with a #3 tip. I wrote out Bon jour, Baby Lilyan on acetate, then put another piece of acetate over that and traced the wording with chocolate. Popped that into the frig and then lifted the lettering off with an off-set spatula.

Had I been on my game, I would have curved the lettering to fit the 6" top, but I had already baked a sugar-cookie "banner" and was going to put the lettering on that, so I wrote it straight. Ah well....it was 11:00 PM and this vulli was going to bed.

This is really another of your amazing successes...well done - lucky recipiants
