Bain-marie

I have a vague memory of a long-ago discussion on the forum about the origin of the term 'bain-Marie', and no recollection of an answer, so I was fascinated to find this by accident today (instead of writing lesson plans) = apparently it is named after Maria the Jewess, who lived in the first century AD, and invented many stills and condensers, some of which worked on the principle as a double boiler.

Even if this isn't true, I want it to be!
