I'm a novice to the bake sale world.

In reviewing past posts, these seem to be the

most popular. Are bar cookies or cupcakes/muffins better?

(choc chip cookies and brownies are already covered by others)

Can you help me decide which would be best?

Barefoot Contessa Coconut cupcakes

Banana Crunch Muffins

Snickerdoodle Whoopie pies

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Cinnamon Muffins

Thanks!

M

Bars or squares seem popular at our bake sales - like Oatmeal Carmelitas, Date Squares, Shortbread

Squares or even Butter Tarts. I think the Blueberry Crumb Bars would be a winner.

Here, the big items seem to sell well - whole pies, whole cakes, etc. People take

them to events. Cookies and brownies are popular, but there are always tons, and we end up selling them at half-price a half-hour before the sale ends.

I was wondering about the "whole" items. Or half cakes. Then people can see the inside?

Impressive sells... something really beautiful and well presented. "familiar" sells well

People see brownies or choc chip cookies and KNOW what they're getting... anything different may need taste samples. Half cakes also sell well because you can 'see' what you're getting and they look very impressive in layers like that. Nice to have 2 of them - one whole and one cut in case they want to take it for a dinner or something... depends on how much you are baking I guess. I see people steer away from whole pies (unless they know the baker) because they look at that and think "I can get the same thing at Marie Callendars for $4.99". Not everyone has taste smileys/smile.gif
Just my two cents!

Ina G also has a very decadent Pecan Bar recipe that can be dipped halfway in chocolate---very nice

presentation. Coffee cakes(loaded with streusel) or other small cakes, baked and iced in square aluminum pans and sold that way usually are easy to transport and a good size for families. maybe use some of the fruits that are in season right now in your area. the blueberry bars might get a bit soft---anyone else have this happen?

She had ME in mind... I'll buy ANYTHING half-dipped in chocolate!! Which reminds me....

macaroons are also a good idea

These ALWAYS sell out quickly. I've also found that decorating (icing or dipping in chocolate)

makes a big difference, as does presentation. Whole pies and cakes don't sell well here. We also provide small boxes and folks go around the tables and pick up a variety of items.

I was thinking of making some chicken pot pies with the flower top.

I just love ideas like that, which are also easy to make.

I like that idea---to give them boxes and let them make their own selection.

maybe have helpers with gloves on put the cookies in the boxes. or, just make up some variety boxes with a nice selection.
