Banana Peppers!

So, I planted some banana pepper plants this spring as my boys thought the name was cool and promised me they would try them. Well, fast forward to July and I am awash in banana peppers. What do I do with them? I have, quite honestly, NEVER used them in a recipe before. Any ideas?

Thanks

Kathleen

I have eaten them Italian style where they are stuffed with sausage

and bread crumb mixture served with tomato sauce. My Grandma canned them in a vinegar brine like pepperoncini.

They are good eaten out of hand or cut up in things that use bell pepper too.

Hope they weren't planted close to any hot peppers or you might get a surprise. Grandad handed me one he'd just picked to nibble on when I was little. I just about melted down and cried because it was so hot. He & mom didn't believe me until they tasted it. The sweet banana peppers cross-pollinated with the little fiery birds-eye peppers that were near them in the garden.

A local chain here called "Hole Mole" which specializes in fish tacos, served a pile of them

fried, next to the takeout window. I love them.

From what I can gather, they roll them in cornmeal and deep-fry them, but they remind me of fried green tomatoes, and they could be adapted.

You could pickle them. I pickled some last summer, well actually it was

a variety of peppers, some hot, some mild. I just cut them in slices and brined them with my mom's dill pickle recipe, without the dill head. I do jalapeno slices like that too. They turned out really good.

slice and use them in tomato salad or any way you would use red/green pepper. test for hotness!
