BBQ sauce taste test

WaPo did a taste test of 13 commercial BBQ sauces. The final result was Walmart's!! and the runnerup was Kraft. It was pretty interesting to me. I make my own personally but when giving my pulled pork recipe to people I tell them that if they don't make the sauce to dilute Sweet Baby Ray's in half with vinegar which to me gives a pretty good western NC sauce--vinegary and sweet. Sweet Baby Ray's was in the test and scored low--as die 10 of the 13 actually.

I do too but agree it is too thick as is. I have never liked the KC Masterpiece sauces but my son does!

BBQ sauce recipe--western NC style--my other son says I should bottle it and sell it!!
1 24-28oz. bottle of ketchup
1 ketchup bottle of cider vinegar
3/4C yellow mustard
3/4C worcestershire sauce
1/2-3/4C packed brown sugar
1TBS coarse black pepper
Smoked paprika--hot and or sweet--Tsp or more to taste
Sriacha or Louisiana hot sauce if you want it hotter
Liquid smoke if you want
Simmer for 45 minutes.

I don't know any of the Ray family but I actually do buy Kraft Hickory. And use it often. And at 67 cents at Walmart now, I can almost afford it. I think it's the only preprepared food I buy and really cannot justify making it myself.
