Beach food

We went to the beach a few weeks ago which is always a treat for cooking local SC seafood. On the way down we always stop at the Pee Dee Farmer's Market to buy green peanuts to boil where I also found fresh shelled whiteacre peas--had heard of them forever but never found. They were wonderful. DGD is vegan so I didn't add the usual bacon or ham to the cooking liquid--just onion. Delicious.

And in a real case of serendipity, our seafood market had soft shell crabs (in June!) and they were truly a treat. These were what are called "whales"--huge and meaty. They finished out a week that included shrimp and mussels at home--fried oysters and broiled scallops and grouper at our restaurant night. Good stuff!

Ahhh, in my excitement to talk about the whiteacres and soft shells I neglected to say that the mussels were especially delicious--cooked them in a white wine, green curry, coconut milk mix. And then of course, we always have at least one meal of crab cakes. Crab has gone out the gazoo expensive, but so delicious. Dear son who is on a keto diet got gorgeous ribeyes for us to have a surf and turf with crab cakes.

Drooling. For someone who loves seafood as much as I do, I haven't figured out why I still live in a landlocked state. šŸ˜‚
