Best way to keep huge cookies from breaking? Should I cut them extra thick? How to pack?

So, just took the first test batch of my Snoopy on the Doghouse sugar cookies out of the oven. I thought I made them fairly thick (as the cutter that has an impression would allow). However, these are huge cookies. As in I could fit 3 on a cookie sheet close together, they are bigger than my hand, 8" cookies.

I just transferred them to the cooling rack, but I already fear breakage. I'd planned to make these the centerpiece of my gift baskets (in a clear bag) and also want to ship some to mom to share with others in assisted living to ooh-and-ahh over when they come to her room.

Yes, the hugeness/breakage factor just occurred to me. Apparently I'm kinda slow on the uptake, lol.

Thoughts?

Out of my double batch of sugar cookie dough that normally has me swimming in cookies, I got 12 total of these monsters.I put the paddle of the KA here for point of reference.

Maybe mount them on stiff cardboard (a box lid) with royal icing before wrapping?

ETA: You could trim the cardboard to roughly the shape of the Snoopy-on-doghouse cookie cutter, to fit it in the basket, etc. a bit better...

I was going to suggest cardboard as well - and wrap the box within another box

packed with Styrofoam peanuts or other non-paper cushioning (paper compresses).

I would also roll the dough on the thicker side to make them sturdy.
