Better in theory than execution

I went to check out an upscale taco joint this morning that has been getting a lot of attention for a while. The tacos are so big they are closer to burritos. I chose the Paris, Texas- charcoal grilled hanger steak, potatoes, eggs, spinach and charred-tomato hollandaise on a flour tortilla. It was so close to being terrific, but the steak was in too-big, too-thick slices so they pulled out every time you took a bite and the spinach was raw and the heat of the eggs didn't wilt it, so it also pulled out when you bit by the stems. They couldn't put much of the sauce in a taco. I sure would have been good on a plate over something besides a tortilla and with more sauce though. I think I'll stick to dollar Mexican tacos.

Don't you hate when that happens? I've reached the point where I ask questions like...

(at a Thai restaurant)
"Is the Beef Salad steak sliced very thinly?"

(at an upscale burger joint "Red Robin")
"Is the French au jus steak sliced very thinly?"

(at a French creperie)
"Is the Beef Crepe steak sliced very thinly?"

(at a local diner)
"Is the Steak Salad beef sliced very thinly?"

As you can see, I like beef.

I should just have cards printed.

PS: By the way, they all answer "YES!" and then I get meat anywhere from 1/4" to 1" thick. If I want thick steak, then I order A STEAK. I guess "thin" is relative. What I want is bit of SHAVED steak that is thin and flavorful enough to simply compliment the rest of the ingredients. But somehow I'm not phrasing it correctly. Or emphatically enough.
