Big Brother's name is Sams!

I got a letter this weekend from Sam's that informed me the box of Kellogg's granola bars I purchased on February 2, 2009 has been recalled as part of the peanut issue.

Although I appreciate the warning, I didn't know anyone was tracking my snack purchases. They know everything I've purchased. Now I have to think back on anything incriminating...

Wouldn't this only be at a store where a store card is used?? although, guess we all use them?

I remember when I signed up for my store card many years ago, I had the option

of being tracked (under the guise of special offers etc). I said no and I think it worked as several years later I went to sign up for something else and they told me that since I was not being tracked I could not participate (I forgot what it was)

Yesm I miss out on some special offers, but use my grocery cards anonymously.

They did print a recall notice at the bottom of my receipts for several visits for some peanut butter crackers I bought a few months ago.

Unless you pay cash for things, and don't use discount cards, there is a lot of harvestable info

about you out there.

Not long ago I returned an ink cartridge from a printer that I had trashed...

They refunded the price and told me I had bought it in 2006!!!

and I went to Domino's tonight to pick up a pizza and it was "comped" because of a problem with the last one I bought -- in November!!! Your phone number tracks a lot of stuff about you too!

All of my store cards are "aliases"...

when I shop at Kroger's, I'm "Richard Wagner," when I shop at Remke's, I'm "Richard Strauss", etc. LOL

Costco sent me a letter once about some almonds I purchased that were recalled - I almost threw out

the letter thinking it was junk mail...
Think we had already consumed the almonds and, thankfully, lived through it. I really appreciated being notified! This was at least 2 years ago.
Amazing what they know about you.

or use fake information when people are harvesting data and personal info.

I change numbers here and there to keep it looking authentic. And as noted below, for these store cards, none of them have my real name, address, etc. I just need the discount, not the big brother service.

Can they legally do that? I needed an Albertson card one time and asked if I could get one without

giving the info and was told it wasn't required. So I left it all blank and got the card. I wonder if this can vary by state.
