Brown Eggs---I started buying them a few months ago, made me feel "fancy" but

I find a bad egg in almost every dozen--smelly discolored yukky. I never had bad eggs in the white eggs I always bought. I checked the expiration date and all the cartons were fine. I also notice little blood specks in the whites/yolks in these brown eggs. anyone else have problems with brown eggs? I bought them at 2 different stores, different brands. I now do the "open the egg in a small dish before adding to the batter" thing. I'm back to buying the white eggs. so much for "fancy".

 
I buy brown all the time and never experience what you say. I don't buy them, however, from the

grocery store. I buy them from our store that's similar to whole foods....a glorified health food market and cafe

 
The only difference between brown and white eggs is that brown come from brown chickens

and white from white chickens. I don't raise chickens but this is what the growers at the Farmer's Markets tell me.

 
We get ours from the Farmers Market and never had this problem.

Curious where you are getting them. Something is wrong if you are getting 1 out of 12 bad.

You didn't say where the eggs were bought...grocery store, farm market.. all from one producer,or whether they were free range, caged etc.
The "blood" speck usually was attributed to a fertilized egg; one that had been fertilized but not "brooded", kept warm to incubate.
Free range chickens with a rooster would produce these eggs.
As for a bad egg....a hairline crack, an egg that was hidden in the nest, an egg not collected and cooled soon enough, might accont for an occasional "bed egg".
I never had any complaints about my eggs, and I have had more than a few "bad" eggs from the supermarkets over the years.
So many in fact that I ALWAYS crack an egg into a dish before combining it with other eggs, etc.

 
I buy them at super Walmart and also Fred Meyer(Kroger). they were out of white eggs one day and I

grabbed some brown eggs---they were actually cheaper too. not in the organic section, just with the regular eggs. I'm back to white eggs for now.
