to label bromates if added, would someone be kind enough to check on Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour the next time you're in the supermarket? It would have to list it as either bromated, brominated, or simply "bromates" in the list of ingredients. I'm hoping it won't contain them at all. Thanks!

Here's the list of ingredients

Wheat flour, malted barley flour, Niacin (A B Vitamin) Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate ( Vitamin B1), Riboflavin( Vitamin B2), Folic Acid( A B Vitamin)
That's it!

15 or so years ago, California required labeling of possibly carcinogenic agents. . .

including flour bromates. I was using Gold Medal Better for Bread flour and noticed that the bromating agent was dropped and a new ingredient was added: Ascorbic Acid, or Vitamin C. To me the feel of dough with Vit. C was nicer and easier to work with. I called Gold Medal and told them so.

funny, it says "Potassium bromate might also be used in the production of malt barley" --

does that mean that the GM flour's "malted barley flour" may contain traces of bromate... and how would you know?!

Traca, here's what it say's on the bag

Unbleached all-purpose flour,
enriched, presifted flour, no chemical bleaching, then again in caps, NO CHEMICAL BLEACHING.Hope this answers your questions. I'm not a baker and run from anything that needs to be rolled or involves yeast.
So I'm just telling what is on the bag.
P.S. Hubby is supposed to go to Seattle again next month, do you know if they sell the bacon jam at one of the gift stores at the airport??

Thanks Susan. Interesting...As for the bacon jam, they don't sell it at

the airport (this is their first year and they're still pretty new.) It is available by mail order though.

Funny you should mention bacon jam. My friend Matt from www.mattbites.com was just in town...and I sent him off with a tin of bacon jam. We went to Skillet for lunch on Friday and he declared their burger one of the best he's ever had....(bacon jam is the condiment.)
