There are way more than six on my list for this weekend and way more than I can possibly do. But here is my wish list:

*Cookies-at least 4 different kinds, some to trade with the woman who is painting faces on my pumpkins and some for my apple man at the farmers market, some just because there are recipes I need to try! Possibilities are : Chai Spiced Cookies, Mini Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Toffee Cookies, Candy Cane Kiss Cookies (but not with the striped kisses), Nibby Buckwheat Butter Cookie, Peanut Saucers, Showstopper Cookies from Oui Chef Network (has walnuts, white chocolate and toffee bits), and chocolate sesame cookies are all candidates....

*Bourbon Pumpkin Pie with Pecan Streusel made with fresh pumpkin

*Michael Chiarello's butternut squash soup

*potato and leek soup

*Pork Tenderloin with Roasted Apples and Onions

*Zucchini Bread for DH's weekday breakfast

Cannot match you, not even close...

1. We have a costume party to go tonight, so I'm taking a focaccia. Improvised a recipe with a touch of rye in the dough, sundried tomatoes, gorgonzola, and rosemary on top.

2. Carrot soup. If I have energy and time this afternoon, will make a soup in the pressure cooker, an interesting take from a year ago in Food and Wine magazine.

3.....

shame on me, could not even get to number three!

Mine has as many items, with just a little less reach:

1) Pour cup of coffee
2) Add creamer
3) Add Splenda
4) Stir
5) Taste
6) Add 1 more Splenda

Phew. Now, I must rest.

Oh Barbara...I'm tired just reading the list - LOL

but I sure would love to be there with you and spend the day cooking together:)

Barb would this be your pork recipe? I notice a couple of others w same name.

Pork Tenderloin with Roasted Apples and Onions

Impressive, Barb! This is one cookie recipe I aim to try...

My Saturday Six:

1. Lazy morning with apple cake and coffee.

2. Big omelet for lunch using Jacques Pepin's technique (with a wooden spoon). It works! (Of course it works! Jeez, he's Pepin.)

3. Attempted to make lentils with tomato sauce from lentils that were too old. Forty-five minutes later, affirmed that said lentils were DOA and still crunchy. Made linguine instead.

4. If it's hat weather (which it finally is today in New York), it's chicken-roasting weather.

5. Still adjusting to our new neighborhood. There must be a normal supermarket around somewhere...

6. Am also still in bribe-with-brownies mode. This expedites practically anything you need done. I recommend it highly as a strategy. smileys/smile.gif

How funny Erin, I was just reading about these cookies this morning, I think on the Cookie Maddness

blog. She said that the recipe from Regis and Kelly was incomplete and that Joe from Culinary in the Desert helped her out and the one she posted worked. I am very tempted to try them. (I am pretty sure that it was on the Cookie Madness blog.)

FYI, (not that it matters) but Kelly Rippen was born in Stratford, NJ and I

lived about a half mile away from her in Somerdale, NJ. Um, she's about 15 years my junior, but I dated a couple of guys in Stratford, NJ during high school and Kelly lived in that lovely neck of the woods.

Geez, what happened to me? - What happened to my ladder to stardom?? LOL

Barbara - tell us how everything turned out! I managed not to make a darn thing yesterday

although I did spend 4 hours taking out our dahlias, hosing them off, etc. I would have way rather have been cooking:)

Sunday Six

Made Posole Rojo (with pork and hominy) and it was enjoyed by all.

Also made a new roasted butternut squash soup that turned out nice.

Had a fun day today with several girlfriends making french macaron cookies -- our first attempt....they were delicious....lemon flavored filled with a layer of fresh meyer lemon curd and a layer of lemon-flavored mascarpone cheese.

We also made some almond macaroons from a Flo Braker recipe that Charlie shared with me when I asked him he had anything like the pignoli cookies we sampled in San Francisco recently at a popular Italian bakery. The cookies turned out even better than the ones we had at the bakery. smileys/smile.gif

Loving this incredible weather we've been having here in the San Francisco Bay Area -- beautiful low to mid 80s. Making me want to plant fall veggies. Bought some Fall vegetable plants yesterday and will put them in the ground tomorrow -- brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas. Also bought seeds for some really nice lettuces and will plant those as well.

Still getting delicious tomatoes from the garden and hoping that will continue for a few more weeks. smileys/smile.gif

Bonus (I think): neighbor who prunes and cares for trees for a living brought me about 20 lbs of apples -- they look like granny smith type, from a client who was giving away alllll their apples. OMG, what am I gonna do with 20 lbs. of apples? LOL

Weekend Six

Moved into a new place last week and finally got cozy in the kitchen. This weekend I made:

- Shredded Beef Flautas (the filling I'll use for pupusas)

- Chicken Liver Pate

- Italian Sausage & Pasta Soup

- doctored the eggplant curry I made earlier this week. Chopped all the eggplant, made a new batch of sauce and doubled it, added onions, sausage, a touch of cinnamon (Moroccan-inspired) and whole wheat pasta. Major improvement.

- And I capped off Sunday night attending the Seattle Lamb Jam, sponsored by the American Lamb Board. 20+ chefs and 30+ wineries. The food was *remarkable*. Apparently the chefs were required to submit recipes. Once I get my hands on them, I'll share. Most interesting? A savory waffle cone, stuffed with braised lamb and topped with a swirl of purple potato mash and a drizzle of sauce. It looked like an ice cream cone and yet it was savory. Fabulous!
