Can I use eggs whites from carton instead of actual eggs whites to make meringue cookies?

This question come from a friend who I volunteered to help bake cookies for a cookie bar at her daughter's wedding at the end of May.

I'd check the carton on the egg whites you are buying, there is a lot

of discrepancy about this. Some of the cartons say you cannot use for meringues
