Can I use pasta bowls for soup?

I'm totally useless when it comes to china!

I got new dinner plates from my boy friends mother, and today I found some great bowls (or so I thought) to go with them.

I said to the lady in the store that I wanted 10 of "these soup bowls" and she replies "that's not soup bowls, it's for pasta!"

HUH?

Do you people have separate bowls for PASTA?

I loved these bowls, but will they not work for serving soup?

I'm trying to downsize in terms of kitchen stuff, but we also eat a lot of pasta. Do I need both pasta dishes AND soup bowls or can I use the pasta dish for soup?

Also, I have up till now served pasta on flat plates. Where the heck do the pasta plates come from?

Help, I need to decide before tomorrow because the sale ends then (the pasta plates were marked down 50 percent. If I want them I have to but them tomorrow, but I won't spend that amount of money on them if I cannot use them for soup, kwim?

And for those who wonder, the plates were wok-shaped.

Hi Eva, I have black Fiestaware "pasta bowls" that I use for

soup, salads, oatmeal (with so much surface area, hot things cool off quickly) and so many other things. They are one of the most versatile pieces of china I own. I love them. And they are great for pasta too. I would urge you to buy them, especially if you love them!

Thank you for your tips and ideas Dawn. I'm buying them! :insertbighughere: smileys/smile.gif

Absolutely, nice for "main dish" soups, gumbo, abondigas, stews, pozole, etc..

LOL! I hope the sales lady doesn't work on commission! She should have

applauded your ingenuity and also suggested you could serve punch or nuts in them as well!

p.s. I have lipped soup plates and love them for all sorts of dishes. The pasta doesn't go sliding all over the table--not that we overload our plates, mind you smileys/wink.gif

Overloaded plates---who does that?? I use mine for beef stew with dollops of polenta in the center.

Lovely presentation. An island of creamy polenta in a sea of stew.

You have eminent domain over 30 Linear Feet of Counter Space. You don't need no stinkin'

permission to use whatever dishes you want!

OOOH, start cooking, I'm on my way with the shiraz...No Chianti, what the hell, both!!

I just looked online and found out that my "pasta" bowls, are really rimmed soup bowls!

So you should definitely buy them!
