Can someone help turning this Apple Cider Bundt Cake into a layer cake?

For the last two years I had been making a wonderful spiced layer cake (that used applesauce). Well, thanks to over zealous deleting of some bookmarks I lost the recipe and can't find it again.

This bundt recipe was very similar in taste (although I did add cardamom) but the texture, as a layer cake, was dense and didn't rise much. absolutely scrumptious tho. I'm sure the problems had to do with the 1 cup each of oil, applesauce and cider (but especially the first). Any idea how to modify it to be a layer cake (not dense). Oh how I curse myself for losing the link.

This is the bundt recipe: Apple Cider Donut Bundt Cake

I think you have hit the nail on the head about the heaviness. I have an apple cider donut cake recipe that I use on repeat that is not dense.
I'll share the link, but give you my tweaks that help.
I use vegetable oil in place of olive oil, typically either corn or canola, and I reduce the amount to 2/3 cup.
I think this could easily translate into an 8" layer cake.

Thank you so much!
