Can we talk butter?

Years ago I tried the Kirkland brand and it was awful, none of my cookies turned out. With a bit of research I discovered that the Kirkland brand had a much high water content and that was why my cookies were bad. I found Trader Joes butter and LOVED it for many years. This summer they changed the packaging going from short fat stick to the more standard long narrow sticks. I am not loving it in my cookies this year and wonder if they have a new suppier. Then I saw a NYT review of butters and Kirkland was on the good list!! Also Costco carries Kerrygold for a good price but I have read that it has a higher butter fat content that is not good for all baking as the recipes are not designed for that amount.

What kind of butter do you use and love in your cookies??

Oohh…I just read that COSTCO had a recall on it’s butter (both salted and unsalted)

I also use Trader Joe’s and just loaded up on the new packaging version but haven’t used any yet for cookies.

I’ve been watching out for BOGO sales and Plugra and Kerry have both been about $4/lb then.

Segue: I noticed sugar on sale, picked up the bag only to see it’s now 3.5 lbs! Was 5 lbs forever, then 4 lbs and now it’s less again

And Betty Crocker cake mixes are only 13.25 oz, down from 15.5 oz, which used to be a full 18 oz.

I wonder how many Thanksgiving desserts “made using Grandma’s recipe!” are going to disappoint.

I have been using kirkland for years and am happy with it. What I will not use is Kirkland cream cheese - seems to have much more water. Unfortunately Costco hasn't had Philadephia blocks for quite some time so i grab them on sale at our local grocery chain.

I still use Trader Joe’s, but here on the west coast the short sticks are standard 😢. We use to be able to find land o lakes in the longs sticks, but no more. Mom’s butter dish is designed for long ones, so I always have to cut the butter when getting a new stick. are the long sticks called Philadelphia style?

If I find a brand name on sale, I will get some unsalted for baking. I think I used unsalted challenge butter in this year’s pie.

The reason Costco had to recall their butter was because there was some mistake on the packaging that forgot to include it contained milk products. So nothing was actually wrong with the butter. It was the packaging.
