nonstick is a myth and you can't clean them without scrubbing off the finish. Am I doing something wrong?

Second, I have a Lodge grill square that I have never used. Should I season it like I did my cast iron pan? I love the way the cast iron pan turned out and it is truly non stick, that's what I would like for a grill pan.

Please help! Thank you.

I use my Lodge Grill pan probably several times a week. If I remember, it came

"pre-seasoned". Wasn't sure what that meant, so think I washed it with really hot water. Put it in a hot over for awhile and then rubbed it with a tiny bit of oil.

I mostly use it under the broiler, mostly with fish and have no sticking problems. Just wash it off with hot water and a plastic scrubby thing.

Good Luck,
Nan

I think you are going to love your Lodge grill pan....

and I would season it just like any other caste iron.

Barbara - I LOVE my non-stick grill pan and I use it all the time. I always spray it with cooking spray before I use it and it cleans up like a dream.

Best of luck!
Deb

I finally learned not to put them in the dishwasher. It does seem that most hints say to pre-season

them.

I now have no trouble with sticking and don't use anything else. I do think there is a difference in quality though. I buy a lot of TFal and also use the little scrubby thing with liquid detergent. Those that met the dishwasher, I just tossed; they stuck.

In fact, I'm buying lots, just in case there becomes a health scare about teflon.

Sorry, but there is a health scare about teflon. . .

If you heat it up above a certain temp (is it 400 or 450ºF it out a gas that you shouldn't be breathing.

Cast Iron is great, especially when well seasoned.

I've been ignoring it. The one I'm more concerned about is the teflon flaking off & ixing with food

I figure I'm old enough now that I can risk it.

but I will be careful now, not to hang my head over the pan to get a whiff. I actually do that.

So many of these 'plastics' gass off though, it's tough to get rid of them all.

Barbara, I've been using nothing but a Dobie cleaning pad for years.

I have a large nonstick double-burner grill pan that I lightly coat with olive oil as well as my electric grill plates. After cooking in them, I just let them soak in hot sudsy water in the sink for a while. I then drain and lightly wipe out all of the grease and burnt bits with paper towels and clean gently with a soapy Dobie pad and warm water. I always try to buy a box of three and discard them when they get funky.

I personally don't like spraying nonstick pans with Pam because of the filmy build-up it leaves.

I have to chuckle, because I suspect my nice "new car smell" is actually plastic fumes and who knows

what else leaching from the compounds making up new cars these days.

I actually get spacey and nauseated with that smell! Can't stand new tire/car smells

Once, when I was a kid, all I asked Santa for was a doll with the most beautiful hair advertised on TV. And it came!!! But when I opened the box and pull it out, my very first reaction was to shove it away from me. My mother was heart-broken. Knowing now what I didn't know then---that we weren't all that rich and this was a big deal to mailorder that doll for me--I can understand why she was hurt.

To this day, I can still remember the smell of that awful plastic odor, see the artifical reddish/pink hair color and the scalp holes.

But at least I know what to expect if I ever date an 80-year old guy who dyes his hair plugs.

I think I will get rid of the non stick ones because I can't seem to make them work--

I do worry about heating them up to too high of a temp and having teflon gas problems and I don't use non stick spray because of the residue build up-however I have no problem with cooking oils or butter. I am just tired of scrubbing them for days to get the cooked on gunk off of them.

I will season the Lodge grill pan and give it a try!

Thanks to everyone for your input, I appreciate it!
