Can we talk peppermills?

The only pepper mill that I've found to work these days is the Zassenhaus from Germany. Mine is rather small and I have to fill it up every day, but going on 30 years, it works like a charm.tax

In the meantime, I've purchased many imposters claiming they grind peppercorns. They work for a couple weeks, they are fine, and then they are done.

No more for ever more.

What are you using?

Unicorn magnus plus recommended by ATK

it has a very large capacity so I don't have to refill often. It's been working well for the past 5 years or so. Before that we had always used the peugeot, but didn't like filling it through that tiny opening.

Pepper Mill

I have both the Magnum Plus and the Cole & Mason and like them both. However I find the Magnum more difficult to control the size of grind. The other thing on the Magnum is the fill hole opens easily and I have to check to make sure it is closed before using. (I've never lost any peppercorns because the hole sits high!). I really like the Cole & Mason. Its easy to fill(as is the Magnum),it has a large barrel, and changing the grind size is very easy. I've not had the Cole & Mason nearly as long as the Magnum so I can't remark on durability. I've had the Magnum for years!

Unicorn Magnus, 2 black ones and one white one. White for white pepper, short black one for bold

pepper, have had them for years, they are great!

My peppergrinder wish: I have a large pepper grinder, but need a large grinder with a crank . . .

The big one works fine, but I am always having to adjust the grind, which is fine when I only need a bit of pepper. The twisting/gripping motion of my grinding hand bothers my arthritis, or at least bothers something in that hand.

Pepper mills with cranks: we have two small ones; one resides on my husband's side of the table and the other is up by the big grinder in the kitchen. Crank grinders work great, you can get a lot of pepper in a short time of cranking, but mine are little, run out quickly, and are hard to fill.

Electric peppermills: I like the idea, but I don't like all the dang batteries, and the disposal of the dang batteries. I am a Luddite when it concerns peppermills. I even grind large amounts of black pepper in a mortar and pestle.

I want a tall crank peppermill, with lots of capacity, with a metal or ceramic grinder that keeps itself clear, easy to fill, and will work, well, like forever! Any suggestions?

I wanted a one-handed grinder so it had to be electronic. I bought a Cole & Mason about 15 years ago

When it died about 9 years ago, the co. replaced it with another similar. It has worked fine since. I have NO trouble with it. I fill it about every 7 weeks, but I no longer cook up the storm that you do. This one is preferable because of the handy position of the button.

I could not find the exact version on their site.

What I had lots of trouble with was finding a sea salt grinder. That was about 8 years ago when there was not a selection and the mechanics except for the Swiss one I bought, were all metal. (rustable)

Btw, we had a lot of trouble with Penzey's peppercorns. We have better luck with ones from Costco.

One variety of Penzeys were just too large and didn't grind well.

I agree w/ Curious1--bought my Peppermate pepper mill in 1980 & it still wrks/grinds like a champ!
