Cathy Z, I have Julia's onion soup brewing on the stove. I think of you each time I make it. ;-)

I found this recipe when I was in Saudi in a British magazine

but they didn't give credit where it came from. I didn't know it was Julia's until I came home and realized when it was posted here. It's sad that magazine didn't give her credit. I won't ever even try a different recipe. It's one of John's favorite meals, onion soup, broccoli and Swiss cheese quiche and a green salad. Perfect!

We're in a cold snap (for CA) and both recovering from nasty colds. It was heavenly.

Lovely, Orchid. Our tradition is just bubbling ramekins of the gratineed version of the soup

and a green salad- usually pear and watercress salad.

Lovely, lovely, lovely French Onion Soup from Julia.

Just a side note- many, many years ago I participated in master classes with Julia- 3 incredible days. I was able to ask her about the French Onion Soup recipe- she said although she published a few different recipes, only one was her favorite. It is the one I use.

That'd make me snap right out of a cold. I am ready to roast bones/veggies tomorrow to start.

Does anyone use red wine instead of white? I see one reviewer

does. I always have red wine on hand - white I'd have to open.
Thanks
Betty
