CathyZ - made your flourless chocolate cake this weekend to rave reviews.

{Cathy} Frozen shoulder? Tendonitis? Bursitis? I'm right there with you, babe....

I thought it was a pinched nerve for a month,
but now we're going on 3 months of steady pain,
physical therapy for the last 4 weeks with 4 more weeks scheduled
trying acupuncture this week...

Isn't it a (insert appropriate bad word here) not to be able to use your arm!!! I mean, it's just one of those appendages that was always there before...dependable, reliable, useable.

And the not being able to sleep through the night!

Which leads us to the twitch under the eye, which is so not attractive, however distracting it is from the dark circles.

Sweetie, I wish you pain-free, full-rotational movement!

Marmaid...years ago I had.....

a wee car accident in my brother-in-laws car. He rear-ended and we were in a mini, one of those without door panels and my shoulder kind of got wedged in the lap at the top of the door under the window. Nothing much in the way of pain, just annoyance at being late for work.

Well, a couple years later I started having serious pain and problems finally having a hard time lifting a fork to my mouth. Now this was really getting serious when one has no control of tha fork weaving around in front of one's mouth. I started first with physo, then had a shot of cortesone which left me feeling high for a week, then wallop, I came down with a thump right back to pain etc.
Our friend had just returned from the States as a fully fledged chiropractor and so I started with him. Every second day......after weeks and weeks things were getting much better and the pain was gone but the shoulder never gave me the same freedom of movement as before. I learn't to live with it...No operation at least, I'm frightened of the needle!
Then we went cruising and here in the Caribbean on a little French island I found that my shoulder's dull ache was getting too much again. I was told to go and see this amazing chap who worked wonders.
We, nothing to lose, I did. In a creepy alley all green with moss and drips I found the door to his room. He is an older man of some Pacific descent who spoke no English and I no French (well not much other than in the line of food and menues) and he felt and wiggled my shoulder and walked my spine and told me to come back in a few days.
This time I took a friend and we were in total hysterics when he asked me to disrobe so he could "'chits'vous"???? turns out he wanted to check the level of the boobs so as to see the overall stance etc.
Then he worked his magic with the wiggles and the walks and the incantations and flicking of the hands along side me.
Some 4 visits later he did a few acupunctures around the shoulder and along my spine.
Blow me down in just less than 6 weeks I was free of all the problems that had beset me for so many years.
I still have not had my shoulder flare up again, although there are many other twinges that I wish I could go and see him for.
He does not have rooms any more, sadly.
I wish you luck with the acupuncture, I believe it had a lot to do with healing of my shoulder.

NFRC You guys always overwhelm me with kindness. I am doing really well, thanks

Here is the story especially for those of you with the same symptoms. I had tears in the Supraspinatus tendon in my right shoulder rotator cuff. Thought I had Tendonitis so went through 3 months of physical therapy and it plateaued so I had an MRI that showed tearing. I could have limped along not being able to wash my own back or brush my hair, eventually tearing it even more and taking the chance that it couldn't be fixed later (take note, MarMaid- we more 'mature' women of a certain age group....ahem....can have further tearing just from normal wear and tear) OR I could be proactive and get it fixed now. I found a really fine orthopedic surgeon and got 'er done. I found I had a real leg up due to going through so much PT before surgery so if those of you who suffer from tendon tears decide on surgery, try like heck to get your insurance company to pay for PT before you have surgery. I am only 8 days out from surgery today and am FAR ahead of others in the rehab stage who didn't do it first.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts- I am getting better every day. My rehab is nothing even CLOSE to what our other dear fellow foodies are going through. I have no pins or rods or casts to contend with.

Thank you ALL my dear friends for your kind words (and flying superheros!)

This has been so bizarre....I've fought weight problems my entire life, but for some silly reason, my body was always there for me, working fine, no matter how much I abused the poor fella.

It has also given me new appreciation for those who cannot afford to get medical attention. I mean, do they just go the rest of their lives not being able to move their arm without pain? I've been to the doctor's twice, PT 13 times and an acupuncturist 3 times so far, just to get 50% of my rotational movement back.

I sleep (or at least try to) surrounded by pillows stabilizing my body movement. When a sudden stabbing pain comes out of nowhere, I look like poor Frodo grasping his arm after the Nazgûl attack.

I haven't reached an improvement plateau yet, so I may get to avoid surgery. If not, I'll be calling Cathy to get her advice!

Hey, the good thing is this is a good excuse to go bra-less! who can wrestle a bra with only 1 arm?
