Checking in while we have Internet. Doing fine...lots of broken tree branches in the yard

we haven't hit the worst yet...that should be around noon. Roads are already flooding. We're 1 mile from the inter coastal and that is already extremely high and coming into the road. And it's not even high tide yet. We have a 6' deep rain drainage canal directly behind our house and it's already to the top of our yard, so that may end up being a problem. Power has been going off and then back on, but Larry installed a propane generator so we're only dark for a minute or two. Just not sure how long that tank will last if the electricity stays off.

If the eye stays off land, we should be okay.

So glad to hear all is well so far. This bad boy was a nothing burger

for us thank goodness. Didn't even loose power. Water surge is really going to be your biggest problem for sure so be careful and stay safe. Thanks for checking in.

Me too! You just never know what these storms will do. The last

hurricane we had was Wilma and that storm was going up the west coast of Fl. and was just a puny little Cat 2. So opposite side of Fl. from me. So it turned during the night, came directly over me, scared the you know what out of me and wiped out our screen room. I was alone on top of it except my Saudi cat who dove under the bed. phhht! It was a nightmare for sure. That hurricane was in Oct. also, Oct. 28th. so I was a little worried about this one.

She's just south of New Smyrna but I won't say the town in case

she wouldn't want that. But you can see on a map that she is not all that far from the coast and the intercoastal waterway considering the strong storm surge. I'm sending positive vibes up to her.

Don't take too big a sigh of relief,I think I heard it might do a loopety loop and come back around?

Hi all. It's Sat morning: Just got full electricity and Internet back up. Have been running on

house generator so it wasn't that bad. Refrigerator and A/C and some electricity outlets are on it No stove, hot water tank or dryer. So I cooked on my Chinese "butane" stove and put together a big batch rice and chicken for neighbors. Fortunately I already had bought two rotisserie chickens and made broth Thursday night.

Two 40' Live Oak trees in the center of our front yard look like a large version of Peanut's Christmas tree....one big stalk and two little branches left at the top. Happily, this will give us the legal OUT we need to have them cut down. You aren't allowed to just cut down Live Oak trees around here. Otherwise they are going to end up falling on our roof.

Thank you again for all the positive thoughts and offers. You truly are the best!

Great news!! Wow, that is fast on the electric and internet. It took

two weeks for us after Wilma. I'm so relieved everything is good.

Thank goodness that is over for you Marilyn...what a nice thing to do for the neighbors!

I was interested in the tree ordinance. We have a similar ruling on our area too. We are known as tree city and also river city, but oak trees are all over the area. They are messy, all year long, get oak fungus and nothing will ever grow in that spot again. We have taken out dozens of them on our property over the years, due to disease, rot or simply a danger to our home. We have spent thousands on these darn trees as they need trimming every so often to clean out the dead wood. We hate them, except for the shade they provide, but there are other trees we have replaced them with which are not messy and still give shade.
My take is this is our property and our health, safety and welfare we are looking after here and if I need to take out a tree I am going to do it.
One year we took out five huge oaks that were raising the foundation in our garage, driveway and pool deck. No one complains, and all our neighbors do the same thing. We always replace the removed tree with either a nice large shrub or a tree that behaves.

Oh, you are on the Atlantic coast of Florida. I always thought you were on the Gulf side. So glad

to know that the storm was not as bad for you as predicted. I'm on the Gulf coast in Alabama, and have been through several fierce hurricanes. A generator is a blessing! How lucky to get your power back so quickly. A lot of powerline workers from my area went to help.

Take care and stay safe.
