I am one of the OLD Gail's members - I'm impressed that people actually know what year they started!! Did you mark it on a calendar? smileys/smile.gif

I grew up with a mom who didn't like to cook, so she didn't care if we fiddled around in the kitchen. When she did, it was the heavy southern food she knew to make. Out of survival, I fiddled around in the kitchen, but not enthusiastically, as it was considered a 'chore'. Got married, taught myself to cook, and found that people really apprecited it because not many cook or bake these days (except for, maybe, the first turkey I ever cooked.... no one told me it had a little bag inside of it). With help from the wonderful cooks on this board, and a hubby that's game to try anything once, I became an accomplished cook. Baking is my forte, though, and I love it. Everyone on my Christmas list gets a basket of homemade goodies - no complaints yet. Many of those goodies came from you all and I thank you heartily!

I have 2 girls - now is Boston, MA (moved back to L.A. July 2007), and Austin, TX. I made sure they could cook and they both really love it. Both are adventurous cooks and love to try new things.

Hubby & I live in Los Angeles (yup, you can feel sorry for me.... I'm anxious to move on), and have lived in the same house since 1979. The one good thing about L.A. is that you can get just about ANYthing.... often 24 hours a day. Great ethnic markets and restaurants.

I can't tell you how many times I've been up visiting my sis in Sacramento and have had to jump on the board for immediate HELP - you always came through. She was highly impressed.

Thanks to all of you - you brighten my day!

p.s. thought I would add a little addendum here... to those "oldies" from Gail's, I posted there as "Jane in L.A.", but since FK doesn't allow spaces, periods, etc., I had to change it. A big HI to all those who knew me waaaaaayyyyyy back when! smileys/smile.gif
