Chipits Cherry Jewel Bars

Ingredients: Dough

1½ c flour

1/3 c brown sugar

¾ c butter or margarine

Ingredients: Topping

1 egg

½ tsp salt

1 ½ c salted mixed nuts

1 ½ c candied cherries (red & green)

1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/3 c brown sugar

Dough instructions:

Combine sugar and flour and cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press mixture evenly and firmly onto bottom of an ungreased 15 x 10 x ½ jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Topping instructions:

Beat eggs slightly and add brown sugar and salt. Add nuts, cherries and chipits. Toss mixture to coat. Spoon fruit mixture evenly over baked layer. Press firmly to adhere layers. Bake an additional 20 minutes. Cool. Cut into 1½ x 2 inch bars or other size to suit.

sounds wonderful and colorful. is there enough dough to spread on that size cookie sheet?

I have such a hard time spreading this amount of dough on a sheet like that.

 
I'll let you know later today when I bake them. I enjoyed the cookies at my book club meeting.

 
There was certainly enough dough to cover the tin. I remember thinking the base was thin when I had

a cookie at our book club meeting. To help fill all the corners of the baking tin, the dough was crumbled over it and then pressed into place. After adding the topping I filled in empty spaces with some extra chocolate chips. They are now cooling on the counter.
