Chocolate Ding-a-Lings (like the original) on Chow

The one person that made it gave it a bad review. BUT the recipe sounds like it would be good...

I think I would definitely increase the amount of cocoa powder. One Tbl. cocoa powder for 24 cupcakes just isn't happening in this house! smileys/smile.gif

With the ganache, cream cheese filling, and chocolate mocha cake, I don't see how she could pronounce it 'tasteless'... and the 'sandy' comment sounds like she overbaked the cake OR undermixed the filling.

Cheezz ~ how much would you increase the cocoa powder for this recipe ~ I'm thinking of making it

tomorrow

I think it's more the under mix of the filling so I'll pay attention to that

Any insight, words of wisdom is always appreciated by you ~ thanks for bringing this to my attention because I just think this has to be a great tasting recipe.

uh, would 1 tbl. per cupcake be too much .... heeheehee

Honestly, for 24 cupcakes' worth of batter, to that 1-1/2 cups of sugar, and considering it DOES have the 4 oz. of unsweetened choc. (which I missed the first time), I think I would still do 1/4 cup cocoa powder. I would also watch the baking time and be sure not to overbake.

They really do sound yummy.... please let us know how they turn out!

Oh, and let me know what time they will be done so I can time my arrival accordingly smileys/smile.gif

dianncy1964, Have a look at the post below - Just posted from Country Living Magazine ...

"Filled Chocolate Cakes," and the one cake recipe that is used is their "Classic Chocolate Cake."

They sound good but I think I'd go with the first one that contains buttermilk...

I've had the best luck with moist, tender cakes when I use buttermilk. One of those scientific things maybe someone can explain?

cheezz, I think you will get the same moisture with the milk and sour cream in the recipe.

I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE GayR and cheezz ~ I will make the one

from CHOW TODAY (with some changes offered by Cheezz ~ and on Monday~ tomorrow~ I'll make the one from Country Living Magazine ~

Why not!!!

I will report with true and fair honesty which is better ~ better yet... I'll have DH make the decision......

I will start the first DING A LINGS in about 2hrs

Tomorrow morning I'll make the Country Living Magazine and Will post results by tomorrow afternoon

This is going to be DELICIOUSLY FUN smileys/smile.gif

I think we need to have FK foodies taste test.... Gay, shall we meet at dianne's for 'breakfast'?!

Gee, cheezz and dianncy just saw the invitation and sadly I cannot make it. LOL

Diancy,

I am anxious for your results.....you are a real trooper! I hope you have fun and enjoy the process and the recipes.

Results are in (drum roll please) The Chow recipe: the chocolate cake was dry but..

the vanilla filling was great

The Country Living recipe: the chocolate cake was good, bit dry but good, and vanilla filling not so good

So what I did was preserve 2 cakes from each recipe and switched the filling

Final result ~ Is the Country Living chocolate cake recipe with the Chow vanilla cream filling ~ and chocolate coating ~ That was the final result of best recipe was to combine

DH LOVED the taste challenge and he didn't know which one he was eating but I did so ... He said any other taste challenges is VERY WELCOMED by him.
