Chocolate Glazed Toffee Bars
Lightly grease a 8 x 8 baking pan
Whisk together:
2/3 cup flour
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
Sprinkle over flour mixture:
1/4 cup (2 oz) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces.
With pastry blender cut the butter into the flour mixture. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons milk. Lightly stir to mix until it begins to hold together. (Can be done in a food processor).
Press into pan refrigerate for 15 minutes. Then bake at 350 for l0 minutes. Cool slightly.
Toast 1 1/2 cups (6 oz) pecans (I prefer almonds)
Set aside.
In a saucepan:
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1/8 teaspoon salt.
Stir frequently, bring to a boil - for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.Stir in toasted nuts.
Add:
1 teaspoon vanilla.
Spread over crust mixture. Bake 17 - 20 minutes at 350.
Transfer pan to wire rack. Sprinkle top with
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate morsels. Let stand several minutes then smooth across the surface.
Garnish with additional nuts (2 tablespoons)
Cut into bars when slightly soft. These bars are much better once they have chilled in the fridge for awhile.
