the cashier of the store holding the event confirmed they would be there 3-5 PM and that I should get there early.

I said I would and she repeated: "Come EARLY! Last year customers started lining up at 11:00 for 3:00 PM. They wrapped around the parking lot."

So sadly, I won't be trying Peach Truck this time.

They started here and I still don't get it.

I think they are overpriced and not that great. They hand you a bag so you don't get to select them. They all ripen at once which is a problem a lot of my friends have had with them. BTW - Michigan peaches are THE BEST! I need a source to get a couple bushels down to TN for me. They really are the best I have ever had and that is coming from a good ole southern girl.

Marilyn, I hope you get yours at the Asheville Farmers Market--they are probably from Gaffney

and better than Georgia peaches!!

I may not agree with you about Michigan 'cause the ones here in Northand South

Carolina are sublime. When we lived in Ohio, yes, AND they were available up into September.
I would never buy a peach I didn't choose!! Last week it was Red Havens. This week it is another--can't call the name. SO delicious.

Georgia got in early on the branding with being the Peach state but the area around Gaffney SC is peach country and has this to boast about it. It is right along I85 and is really amazing to come up on it.

I'm still in PA, but will go to Jaemor peach farm in GA for mine this year. They were amazing

last year...in fact, if I can reproduce the Wild Turkey peach syrup I inadvertently created last summer I will be happy. It was fabulous and sadly, I gave most of it away before realizing how good it was for cocktails.

Do you go there from Asheville? Looks fabulous-a lot like McLeod Farms on

our way to the beach.
But do you go to the Asheville Farmers Market?

Marilyn - If you are up for it, go at 4:45 - should be clear of crowd smileys/wink.gif

Last year I was a bit early with only a few in line. This year, at the same location, I was on time with no parking and a long winding line. That said, the line moves incredibly fast and there are tons of peaches in each huge semi. It was probably 20 minutes from exiting-from to back-in car.

Picked ours up on Sat., 7/6. Dh ate an unripe (hard) peach that night and declared it "tasty." On Monday our peaches gave slightly to the touch - ripe/ready to eat. Delicious! Put them into fridge on Tuesday afternoon. I got antsy and froze 10 whole last Friday. We will finish eating the remaining 8 tonight with family dinner. I'm confident that we could have easily eaten the ones I froze over the next couple of days, still ripe and tasty. We did not bake/cook any - all eaten skin-on smileys/wink.gif This year's peaches were not quite as big as last years so we had a greater number of peaches in the 25 pound case for $42. Colleen

That advice given, your peaches will be a different variety from ours

as different trees ripen at different times during their sales season. Probably why our peaches were smaller this year - different variety. Colleen

MI Red Haven's expected mid-August. YUM!

We love Michigan peaches, blueberries, tomatoes and our corn. Grateful to have 3 fridges/freezers to stock up smileys/wink.gif Colleen
