Our webmaster has set up The Recipe Swap to be accessed using laptops, ipads, tablets, iphones, androids, etc. I ask because the screen you're accessing will look slightly different depending on which device you're on. For example, I use Apple products: my iphone version will look slightly different from the ipad version and then again from the MacBook laptop. (see photos).
It's basic math. Each of the viewing areas (landscape) on these devices gets smaller and smaller and yet our webmaster (Paul) includes all the same data. However, that affects how the data on the site is displayed per device.
If you are only accessing the site using your phone (the most compressed version), I'd suggest trying it on another (larger) device until you get used to the format.
My next comments will be based on my laptop view:
To your question about posting a NEW request for a recipe or to post a recipe, click the large green oval at the upper right corner that says "New Discussion". After you type in your information, you must hit POST. This will push the new thread (post) to the top of the list.
To reply to an existing post, scroll your mouse (or finger) to the right of the post TITLE and click on the pop-up box with the "arrow". When someone responds to an existing post, this pushes THAT thread to the top of the list. In other words, the discussion list is not chronologically static. It is very fluid and reacts to new comments.
SEARCHING: The search button at the TOP of the screen is currently very slow to respond and Paul is working that issue. I wouldn't use it for now. However, there is another SEARCH field below the list of forums to the right. It returns results (searching 15 years of existing recipes) but Paul is improving that one as well. There was a huge migration of data and Paul has been working issues wherein some links did not migrate correctly. Paul can help if there is a specific one you need.
Please feel free to ask any questions. This is a great bunch of users who love to cook and share their successes as well as failures, are kind, non-judgmental, and non-political. Plus we're so lucky to have the best webmaster.
This are how my three devices look upon log-in (ipad, iphone, laptop). To view photos, you must first be logged in as a user. Anyone can view the text, but only users can see photos. Click on the photos and they will open up. Use the arrows to the far right or far left to toggle through the photos. Click the X at upper right to return to the text thread.
