Craziest Christmas ever!

So I went down with Mykoplasma (contagious pneumonia) the week before Christmas, and had to spend most of the week in bed. DH, bless his heart, single handedly bought the tree, decorated it and even bought new lights for it so it should look pretty smileys/heart.gif

Thankfully I had bought most of the food the week before I went down, so after DH picked up the last stuff at the local grocery store two days before Christmas Eve, we were ready for Christmas. Or so we thought.

On the first day of Christmas we had a huge storm who blew off half of my greenhouse (poor DH was out at 2am with a flash light, trying to collect the greenhouse walls that had literally blown off the walls. Finally he just duct taped the entire thing and went to bed. Smart man I've got! smileys/wink.gif

Then we lost the power... for 20 hours. The inernet was out for two days, and the cell phone line was on and off for the rest of the holiday. Thankfully, we do have a wooden stove so DH was able to make some "interesting" (- no other word will quite cover it...) Spaghetti Bolognese for dinner (yup, we had guests over and they loved it - either that or they are very well behaved.. smileys/wink.gif which we washed down with beer and red wine. (Red wine never tasted better than during 2nd day of Christmas...). He basically made tomato sauce and added whatever the fridge held - of meatballs, italian sausage, pork chops....you name it (I told you it was "interesting"...)

Then came New Years Eve. Thankfully we had gotten the power back, the inernet was back and quite frankly, we didn't need the phone so we didn't bother to check if it worked or not.

After spending most of the holiday in bed, I finally felt better and we invited a couple over for New Years and made a steak and everything to go with it. We drank champagne by the fireplace and everything was very comfy and relaxed. It was a nice evening, and we went to bed early-ish (1pm).

Three hours later, my DH woke up to the fire alarm . He ran down stairs and the first floor was filled with smoke. Turns out, he had closed the "thingy" in the chimney from the fireplace to prevent cold air to come trough. Too bad he didn't notice that the fire wasn't all out. So we had no real fire but the house was full of smoke and it took him a while to get the fire alarm to shut down. But what shocked him the most was that I slept through the entire thing. Not even the fire alarm woke me up (note: we have a small house. The living room is under my bedroom and the fire alarm is literally under my bed.....both the dogs woke up and DH was running around downstairs and opened doors and windows.....while I was sound asleep.)

But we made it to 2012 in one piece and I feel a lot better now from the pneumonia. I can even taste what the food tastes like, and that is a huge improvement.

I hope everyone had a great New years Eve, and I hope you had a way better holiday than I had. Love you guys smileys/heart.gif

Holy smokes!! Glad you are on the mend for the New Year! Hope Santa was good to DH smileys/wink.gif

My goodness Eva! I'm so glad you are feeling better. Just think how

much more DH appreciates everything you do. ;0) Happy New Year to you both.

Boy, 2012 can only get better. Your husband deserves a merit badge for his late-night repairs and

last-minute spaghetti sauce. I hope the smoke didn't aggravate your lungs! Both of you rest up and get well.

You both need all the best in 2012. Glad you are on the mend and what a great DH you have,
