I made this late today with my changes below the recipe…It’s a keeper!

Creamy Avocado Kale Smoothie

1 large ripe banana, peeled

4 large kale leaves

1/4-1/2 avocado flesh

3/4 cup blueberries, frozen

1/2 cup strawberries, frozen

1 packet of stevia (optional)

1 1/2 cups pure water

Pour the water and toss the banana, kale, and avocado into the blender. Blend. Then add the blueberries, strawberries, and stevia. Blend

again until smooth. Enjoy! 1-2 servings

MADE THIS 7/13/10

USED 1 C frozen BLUEBERRIES (I forgot it said 3/4c)

1 C FROZ STRAWBERRIES (hard to measure large frozen ones when it’s less than 1 cup)

1 CHUNK PAPAYA, ABOUT 1/3 C (wanted it for added nutrition + it helps digestion)

1/2 AVOCADO

4 KALE LEAVES

ABOUT 2-1/4 C WATER

1 MEDJOOL DATE (didn’t need much sweetness, this added just enough)

VERY GOOD ....SERVED 2 12oz mugs

I've been doing kale and other green smoothies every morning...

I usually put two kinds of fresh fruits, maybe a cup to a cup and a half, then add greens to fill the 8 cup blender jar, and maybe a little bit of water to get it going. Once that blends down, I'll add about a cup of ice. The yield is about 3 cups or so - I'll drink half for breakfast, and the other half during the day. Gotta try an avocado the neighbors' tree starts bearing fruit smileys/smile.gif

I've been rotating the greens each week - kale, romaine lettuce and spinach. Not too crazy about the spinach, though. One of the vendors at the farmers market sells a huge bag of kale for $3, and I can usually finish it by the next week. I'd try Swiss chard, but that's prohibitively expensive in our markets just for a smoothie.

Thinking about trying napa cabbage too. Will try bluberries as well.

I told my hubby that I'm drinking a salad for breakfast smileys/smile.gif

Will try this in the vitamix. smileys/smile.gif thanks! If you had to estimate, would the avocado be about 1/2 cup?

Oh, how I dream of that market! such a fun place. good for you Sandi. I think you all have inspired

me to make up some of these smoothies to kickstart healthier eating for the rest of the summer.

would using a light brew of green tea for the water work in these? I guess I should try it.
