while searching for posts by Nan(finding some of her favorites to send a care package) this salad came up and we made it last Friday to serve with a nice blackened salmon. such a delightful salad. My DH particularly liked the freshness of it----and he was in charge of making the whole dinner. maybe that's why he liked it so much! it's a winner!

I ended up sending Nan some Merlot in a small box(bota box), some Florida pepper, a jar of my candied jalapenos and black currant jam, local chocolate covered caramels and a scarf. It was fun to put together and I hope she can use all of it

even the wine! the newsletter said she enjoyed a glass of wine with dinner, so that stuck in my head when shopping.http://www.eat.at/swap/forum/index.php?action=display&forumid=17&msgid=39

Please send her my best. So kind of you to pull together a happy package for her. I am sure it

will bring her smiles

Oh, Ang, how lovely to hear about the care package you sent to Nan! And a box of wine? Genius!

Question on the cucumber salad. Did you use the sweet or regular chile sauce? I have tried both and

prefer the sweet chile sauce. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I also read in that Pioneer Home newsletter that they were looking for a new food service manager.

golly, but wouldn't that be perfect for Nan, if only she was up to it. I feel like writing them to let them know what talent they have living there and maybe she could do a bit of volunteer help with menu planning etc. might be good for her spirits.

although I read in their newsletter about wine tastings and crabfests and salmon bakes. nice

Nan told me she loved to read those little *local news papers* that little towns put out.

We used to trade Florida ones for Alaskan ones.

On that note, what if we sent her a post card from each of our local areas? I bet she'd love that.
