Dawn/MO -- I missed your post about the results of the spelling bee, and I wanted to say...

You got your PRONOUNCER to give the opening remarks -- I say PERFECT!! The kids have to relate to this person, and hearing him/her speak before the event went a long way to making them comfortable. I don't know why you were beating yourself up over such a rational decision. I, for one, am really impressed with your organizational ability. Shucks, without folks like you to take charge there wouldn't be these great opportunities for our kids.

Thank you!!

Thanks Pat, but if you saw my spice cabinet right now,

you would not use organizational and my name in the same sentence. smileys/smile.gif Can you spell chaos?
Thank you for your nice comments.

Funny you should mention that. I just reorganized mine, and tossed a LOT of stuff!

I bought a bunch of little magnetic tins and have alphabetized them on the side of the refrigerator (where you can't see them unless you WANT to). Each one holds about 1/4 cup. The only spices and dried herbs that aren't up there are ones too big (cinnamon sticks) or too corrosive (ground cloves). Central Market sells bulk spices, so they are cheap and easy to replenish when needed. It is liberating to be able to see all of them at once and lay my hands on just what I need.

Pat, you are so right about the folks who are willing to take charge. We are having...

...a very tough time at our school getting parents to take on even the smallest of jobs. A lot of it is political and has come on in the last few years, but even prior to that it was only a handful of parents (mostly moms, some dads) that took on projects. And it was the same handful taking on the projects time and time again.

Burnout is not good.

sounds like my medicine cabinet... I realize I have stuff that was supposed to be tossed in 1993

Maybe public schools should be like our private schools... parents MUST do a minimum

service in order for their child to attend... I think it's a good idea -- too many parents have absolutely no idea about the school past the curb where they drop their child off.
