Deb in MI....how's the class going with the girls?

It's almost here...thanks so much for asking about it

The class is on Tuesday, July 10th.

After meeting with the organization's staff this is what was decided:

Eggs:
- Scrambled Eggs (Cook's Illustrated way - they are yummy) - whole eggs and a whole egg/egg white combo
- Scrambled Egg Burritos
- Omelets

Fruit/Granola/Yogurt Parfaits (emphasizing fresh and frozen fruit, a portion-size serving of granola, and yogurt)

Taste Tests:
Toasts (white, wheat, multigrain, etc.)
Peanut Butter (regular, lower sodium/sugar/natural)
Cheese (American, Swiss, Cheddar, etc.)

Oatmeal Packets that the flavour themselves (chopped apples, brown sugar, nuts, etc.)

The staff wanted me to emphasize healthy (yet tasty), portion controlled servings. And they loved the idea of having taste tests.

We are also giving them a "7 day breakfast challenge' and the organization is going to come up w/ some sort of prize(s).

So far I have gotten each of the girls their own set of measuring cups, measuring spoons, and spatulas. Now I'm just looking for 16 inexpensive aprons.

My understanding is that there is one girl in particular who is very interested in cooking and says she wants to make a career out of it. I am hoping that we hit it off and that I can be her mentor (the organization, in addition to all the wonderful activities they plan and sponsor, tries to hook each girl up w/ a mentor).

Thanks, again, for asking - I really appreciate the interest/support.

Deb

Deb, try your local "embroidery shop, you know, the one that puts company logos on shirts and hats

They may be willing to donate some aprons for a good cause, and even embroider names or the school name on them.
