into the timing here, as I think it maybe 6:00 est? Hoping it was more like 10:00; anyway.... What would you serve?

I would tell everyone that they need to come in PJs/slippers and a hat.

What fun! Angie was brilliant with facinator hats. If it's evening, I'd go for full English

tea and include small sandwiches as well as pastries. That way your guests would have something beside sugar. But then you could blend that with Hollywood nosh, like sushi or California brunch foods.

Speaking of weddings, I was in London in late 2010 and we were on a small private tour at Westminster Cathedral. Our verger/guide was a bit of gossip and kept dropping hints about wedding plans and finally said: "well, you just can't put on a royal wedding with 6 months notice. We've been planning it for over a year!"

This was 3 weeks before William "supposedly" popped the question to Kate and formally announced their engagement.

I heard the news before the National Enquirer!

PS: I hope no state secrets affecting the safety of the United Kingdom are even spoken in the presence of that verger.

Don't they know that...

their biggest audience is in the US and an afternoon wedding would have been so much more, as the Austrians say, bequemlich?

I vote for the pajama tea party. Get up and come as you are.

Serve the full English Tea and giggle and have fun. Pull out the silver and the china.

Prizes for the best impersonation of HRH Elizabeth II fixing a jeep in the motor pool during WWII.

Don't forget the mini quiches in a nod to the hour.

Have fun!!!

Weird trivia moment:

William and Kate got married on my birthday and harry and Meghan are getting married on my sisters anniversary. You know because it’s all about us, LOL!

Wow!!! I am so sheltered in the 'Nati...

those prices at the Bovine Bakery!!!! $3 for a cupcake?!?!?!?!!?!

We pay $1 here and I'll be damned if they aren't just as good. (Channeling my inner-Aunt Eller from Oklahoma!")

Barb, I just made British Cherry Bakewell Tarts for the first time, and...

OHMYGAWD!!! Those little suckers are killer and they are so easy.

Cherry Bakewell Tart recipe. I made them smaller and made 18 miniature tarts from this recipe:

Pastry
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 Tablespoons confectioners sugar
3/4 cup butter, cut into cubes and chilled
1 egg yolk

Filling
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup ground almonds
1 egg
1 Tablespoon all purpose flour

6 teaspoons cherry jam
1 cup confectioners sugar
2-3 Tablespoons water
6 glace cherries, halved

To make the pastry. Place the flour and confectioners sugar in the bowl of a food processor. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture resembles crumbs. Mix the egg yolk with 2-3 tbsp cold water, tip in to the food processor and pulse again until the dough just comes together.

pour the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead just until smooth

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a large circle. Stamp out 12 rounds using tart cutter. Carefully press into the holes of a muffin tin. Chill for 30 minutes.

Bake the pastry for 10-15 minutes until the sides are set, Set aside on a wire rack to cool.

To make the filling. Cream the butter and sugar until soft; beat in the ground almonds, egg and flour until smooth, set aside.

Spread about 1 tsp jam in the base of each pastry case, then spoon in the almond filling so it comes about half way up the sides.

Bake the tarts for 20 minutes until lightly golden. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer the tarts to a wire rack to cool completely.

Mix the icing sugar with about 2 tbsp water until you have a thick white paste. Spoon on top of the tart cases and top each with half a cherry.
