DH is heading to Houston for most of next week. He's staying downtown and would love any restaurant

hmm, Barb, what kind of restaurants does he like in your area? That would help narrow

down the selection. I have a friend in Houston who might be able to suggest some and his sister lives in DC. So he's knows both areas quite well.

Gary can suggest a Houston selection for you if he knows the type of restaurant you like in DC.

if mark is around, maybe he can tell you how to find the thai czar...

i also have a sil and a twin cousin in houston. i'll try to check it out.
what $ range?

hey marilyn...

SMOOCHsize>color>

(sorry: either my html skills or the swap's have quit. i can't get the bloody smooch to print red.)

Marilyn and RVB, DH will eat a wide variety of cuisines and loves to try new places. Since he is a

federal employee his per diem is limited. I would say a middle of the road price point if that helps at all. They just added another day to his trip and more meetings, I just hope he has time to get away and have a couple of nice dinners!

Thank you both.

There are many choices downtown, but a car greatly expands the choices...

A car and willingness to drive in Houston for even four or five miles provides a huge choice of good restaurants. If not, I will give you a list of great choices within a short cab-ride of downtown. Let me know how to assemble a list for you.

Here is a list, all within a short drive or a cheap taxi fare, which serve great food:

I am listing the address with the name. Man if not most have a website. If you have questions, let me know. There are no clinkers on the list, the price range is reasonable, and they represent a fair if not inclusive idea of what Houston has to offer.

Dolce Vita 500 Westheimer great pizza & pasta
Churrascos 2055 Westheimer Argentine steak
Damian's Cucina 3011 Smith Tuscan
Goode Co. Seafood 2621 Westpark Gulf Coast fish
Indika 516 Westheimer Best Indian in Houston
Lankford Grocery 88 Dennis Chicken Fried Steak
Last Concert 1402 Nance Funky Tex-Mex
Niko-Nikos 2520 Montrose great Greek
Nino's 2817 West Dallas Italian (a fave of mine!)
Antica Osteria 2311 Bissonnet Sicilian seafood
Barbecue Inn 116 W. Crosstimbers shrimp,BBQ,
Beaver's 2310 Decatur glorified icehouse
Berryhill Baja Grill 2639 Revere tamales, fish tacos, enchiladas--a fave of ZZTop & the Stones

There are more but this gives you an idea. Houston is a great restaurant town. i've eaten at all of these but Indika, and its reputation stnads without my recommendation! Questions, just give me a shout!

OMG! Mark I can't thank you enough. DH will be very excited to get this list.

He said he will be working most evenings but will be able to go to dinner with his evening meeting. It will be a very long week for him so it is really nice for him to have this custom list!!

Here's one more list from a person who works in the

Near the “courthouse” district area I can recommend:
• Mia Bella for Italian inspired (Preston at Main)
• Nit Noi for Thai (Congress at Main) possibly other locations too
• Treebeard’s (several locations) for Louisiana inspired c ooking
• Van Loc for Vietnamese

{thanks, Gary!}
