Hi,

What would you recommend would be a nice food gift to send to someone with this particular health problem? As I understand, they can't have sugar and potatoes ........ ????????

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Peggy

Hi Peggy...think protein... cheeses, smoked meats and fish, sardines, etc...

my husband is diabetic and these are the kinds of things he can snack on. My sister-in-law gave him a basket of smoked fish, sardines, oysters, clams, salami and some low carb crackers. It was very much appreciated and enjoyed.

Today when I was shopping at the market something else occurred to me...

I was in the candy section, buying sugar-free candy for hubby. They have quite a selection now; Hershey's Dark Chocolate, Werner's Butterscotch, Altoids, etc. I am not sure how good they are, but hubby likes them. I think it is a case of something is better than nothing. Also on the newstands right now is a small cookbook for cooking low sugar recipes with Splenda. I haven't made anything out of them yet, but hubby did earmark a few that looked good to him. Walgreen's has a nice selection of nuts and flavored nuts also. We like the steakhouse and chipotle almonds.
