Did you get any new cookbooks for Christmas?

Our pooch gave me America's Test Kitchen and the cat, New England Soup Factory Cookbook. I love them both.

I got the New England Soup Factory Cookbook too, from my sis. Which recipe is speaking

to you to try first?

Two by Robert St. John & the best part - illustrated & signed by Wyatt Waters

Southern Seasons and A Southern Palate. Robert's recipes are great but I just LOVE Wyatt Waters works so I found myself paying attention to them and not the recipes. I'll have to keep going through them to fully see everything.

Seven of them:

1)Mark Bittman's Kitchen Express
2)The Splendid Table (Recipes from Emilia Romagna, the Heartland of Northern Italian Food
3)Rosie's Chocolate Packed Jam Filled Butter-Rich No-Holds Barred Cookie Book
4)Rosie's All-Butter Fresh Cream Sugar-Packed No-Holds Barred Baking Book
5)I Know How to Cook (Best-Selling Cookbook in France for Three Generations)
6)Southern Living 2009 Annual Recipes
7)The Best of America's Test Kitchens 2008

Ad Hoc

I got Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc. Finally unwrapped it yesterday -- looks like very approachable recipes, and lots of info for the home cook to take it up a notch without adding huge complication. cheers, Bonnie

None under the tree, but I bought the canning and preserving book from...

...Ball that I've been wanting ever since you guys recommended it, and I found the Williams-Sonoma "Asian" cookbook. Both at Marshall's for a fraction of the regular cost. (Both for under $5.00 total).

I want to start my garden back up this spring and do some canning.

Michael

Two....

Asian Grandmother's Cookbook...per FK Forum recommendation, and what we thought was Vol. II of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but it's a Vol. I reprint, so back it goes. I'll keep my 1973 edition.
Good catch Michael!
Bonnie...I have French Laundry, and Ad Hoc has moved onto the Most Wanted list.

The two volume set of Mastering the Art of French Cooking.....

while shopping with my husband last week at Borders I saw it for $80. He wanted to buy it for me but I wanted to check Amazon first. As of last Tuesday Amazon had the same set for $39.48 + free shipping. I don't know if it is still there.

I got the Hungry Girl cookbook. Bought it for myself! smileys/smile.gif

Works fine for now. My rear end is shrinking! LOL

I don't think I'm as happy with it as I wanted to be...

I have a really in depth Thai cookbook. I like understanding what their lives are like, what they use and why. I don't think I'm ready to say I'm sorry I got it, because I'll love a cookbook for just one recipe! So far, I don't think it's quite what I was hoping for, but close!

I'm with you. I'm not crazy about it.

The author is a friend of mine and the few stories I have read are ok, but the writing itself is not what I expected. The Asian chex mix recipe is good. (I had it at her book release party.) I'll have to cook from it a little more to make a final determination.

Two of my favorite books with recipes & stories are "Sweets: Soul Food Desserts & Memories" and "My New Orleans"

You have sweet pets, with good taste too! I got I smileys/heart.gif Macarons and it's sooo pretty!

It's a nice little book but funnily originally printed in Japanese and translated by Chronicle Books. But this chef has written 3 books on French pastries. Just goes to show you food is a world-wide binding experience!
