Dinner party chat - can't get this story out of my mind

Me: What did you do today?

Brian: My friend and I ran a bunch of stuff to the dump. She was cooking. The phone rang, and then her friend stopped by. Distracted, she left for dinner. 2 1/2 hours later, she discovered the meat she was searing (on high) was left on the stove ALL EVENING. Fortunately, it's only smoke damage. "You can't believe how bad it smells!" Clean up estimate? $30,000. Ooof!

Ack! I'm always afraid I'm going to do that. I get more and more distracted nowadays.

Or a better way of saying it is trying to do too many things at once.

Yes, and the dogs were there. Apparently there's yellow gummy gunk all over the

walls and they'll bring in a team to clean the matresses, carpets, etc. Every single item in the house needs to be treated for the smoke damage.

I left a pan of refried beans on the burner once. I got a phone call and went...

...into the back bedroom to take it. I forgot about the beans when the call ran long. Eventually I noticed a four inch layer of smoke hugging the ceiling.

I freaked! Luckily it didn't burst into flames and burn the house down.

I used to work with a guy notorious for burning microwave popcorn. Evacuated our 30-story

office building twice! Fire department came, blocking downtown traffic on a major street (4th Ave.). From then on, any time we had a fire drill, everyone would ask, "Did Aaron make popcorn???" LOL!

Call me weird, but this thread made me feel so much better after I burned MIL's dinner at the cabin.
