Do any of you subscribe to David Chang's magazine Lucky Peach, and what do you think of it?

I love it. It's different and covers a much wider range of topics than the standard American

food magazines. It's been a while but I like the fact that it's creators are people in the business of food (restaurants, etc.) and I think that informs some of the choices they make and their approach. I find that very refreshing. I feel that for the large part, US magazines only talk about recipes or possibly a farmer/vendor, etc but the topic of food extends beyond that (a la "what we talk about when we talk about food"). I like that Lucky Peach is making a bold attempt at examining it.

It does have a definite straight-boy-skate-punk-turned-chef vibe, especially in the graphics

but I overlook that. I tend to get wholly absorbed in the articles, which I can't say for most culinary magazines.

I do love it, it's so unconventional and racy and I like the way that the articles

depict food and how they think of it. For the most part I find the articles really thought-provoking and "fresh".

Agreed. The magazine is presented in a way that "this is how we talk about food" when

professionals get together. There's something about Lucky Peach that is one part, party between the pages but also deeply thought-provoking. How they balance the two is still a wonder to me, but they do it very well.

It's funny for me because having worked in food for so long, regular magazines just don't cut it anymore. Saveur and Lucky Peach are the two magazines I identify with most. Lucky Peach because it captures the lifestyle, and Saveur fuels my aspirational travel dreams.
