Do I need to add shortening to the chocolate to cover peanut butter balls?

I bought some large chunks of Ghirardelli milk chocolate at World Market to melt down to dip my peanut butter balls. In the past I have used chocolate chips and added shortening to it. Do I still need to add shortening to the Ghirardelli chocolate?

I do, even with milk chocolate.

I've even used Hershey bars on occasion for melting, and I add about half the amount of shortening that I would to semi-sweet.
